About The Authors

2 Very Rare Bears is a story inspired by Steve and Gail’s nieces and nephews Tom, Eva, Emily and James. Tom was severely brain-damaged and sadly passed away in 2017. It seemed a fitting tribute to his memory to create a story that gave Tom a magical adventure with Harry and George.

Steve found a little Doggie Bear in a charity shop looking lonely and in need of a good home.

Knowing Gail would have liked a dog, but couldn’t really have one due to work commitments, it seemed the perfect present.

Her nieces and nephew loved the little Doggie Bear and named him Harry. He soon became a real little character and, with help, the children made him a collection of outfits to wear.

He was baking with them, going to the allotment and even had his own homemade apple chutney! But the children said Harry still looked a little lonely.

Then a little magic happened.

Early one Sunday morning, Steve and Gail went to a car boot sale and sitting there alone, amongst books, teapots and other treasures, was another Doggie Bear! In possibly the fastest sale ever Harry suddenly had a brother whom they named George. Seeing how much pleasure the bears gave the children, Steve and Gail decided to write a children’s adventure story that the whole family could enjoy for years to come and so, on a cold winter’s morning, 2 Very Rare Bears was born.

Although Eva, Emily and James may be getting a little older Harry and George will always hold a special place in their childhood memories.
